Am I unusual for calling my dad by his first name?

His name is William, but I call him Bill, and barely ever call him dad. Am I weird for calling him by his first name? Do you call your parents by their first name?

It is odd to call him by his first name. Though I guess the most important point to note here is "respect". If you say it with respect and your dad does not mind then I guess it should be OK.

But there is a reason why there is a dad and a mom and then there are friends. That is a different set of people altogether.
Reply:I always called my mother by her first name. She abandoned me when I was a year old and I was raised by my father and stepmother. I would go visit her supervised sometimes but didnt know who she was when I was little. So I called her by her first name. Later on I asked who she was and even though I knew then I still called her by her first name. Turned out I didnt know who she was because my father brainwashed me into thinking she wasnt my mother. I never did call her mother or mom.
Reply:It all depends on your relationship with him. If you two don't get along so good then it's ok. I have a good relationship with my dad ad i call him dad. But something you would have to ask yourself. Do you call him like that since you were little? Did somebody taught you this way?
Reply:No and to me and my family it is disrespectful. We would get our *** beat for calling our parents outside their name. We are always told that we only have one mom and dad no matter what. Which is true.
Reply:Hmmmmmmmmmmm....I wonder why you just don't call him dad. Was he not around much when you were younger? Was he not nice to you??? Usually when you don't call your dad, Dad there is a distance there.
Reply:It's not unusual, but it is disrespectful.
