Reply:"Christian name" meaning simply given name, or one with specifically Biblical and/or religious undertones? ;) Assuming the latter, I've know individuals with the following less-than-common "Christian" names:
Dara - many different roots for this one, but it is a Bilical name as well (the Hebrew meaning likely being "wisdom" or "compassion").
Devri - stems from Devorah (Deborah).
Aquila - a masculine Biblical name, though I knew a girl called this, interestingly enough. ;)
Drusilla - went to school with her. She commonly went by simply Dru, however.
Ephraim - cousin's husband.
Ezekiel - a different cousin (in his teens).
Javan - another cousin's son.
Jeshua - variant transcription of Yeshua (same root as Jesus/Joshua).
Tabitha - bit less common on a 30-year-old.
Naomi - ditto. Though I'm seeing this quite a bit more on toddlers now. ;)
Serafina - one of my daughter's little friends. Her mother sometimes shortens it to Sera, and she also goes by Seri (SAYR-ee) in school, to differentiate from another Sarah.
Vashti - not an actual person I know, but I couldn't resist mentioning how great it was hearing this used for a little girl in my 1st-grader's daily reader the other day!
Eliezer - husband's coworker (goes by Eli, but said EL-ee).

Ask the dog, my puppies always let me know what they want to be called. My last rescue was called Tahos which sounded like Chaos and that was what she caused at the other people's house so they gave her up. I asked her what she wanted to be called and she said Katie. She has been a lady ever since. If she acts out, she is KATHERINE!, but that is only once and a while if she gets "devilin" with the other big dogs.

Does anyone know of an unusual babies name?
Watch a favorite movie or read a book and pick out a word that you like the sound of or the feel of it rolling off your tongue! Or look in a baby name book for names from other countries they are unusal to us. But here are my cousins names my aunt was kind of creative first my Aunt's name is Willow, her 4 daughters all start with W's. Wylene, Wendy, Wadine, Winnette. Wendy is the only normal name but it was almost Wendaline. So changing letters around on knonw names is a way to unusual too! I had a friend that like the names from the greek gods and astrology too! Is Cadence an unusual name?
No, but different. I like different and Unique (lets not call it unusual)
Cadence marie
Cadence lynn
Cadence michelle
Cadence Mariah **** (My fav)
Cadence anne
Reply:Its not unusual. It is becoming very popular.
my sister-in-law has a Cadence, a good friend of mine has a Kaydence and my neighbor also has a Cadence, but I'm not sure how she spells it. (all 18 months and younger) There is also two little girls in my sons daycare named Kaidyn and Cadyn (about 2 1/2 ) and they sound pretty similar to Cadence.
I know its a name that has been around for a long time, and its a beautiful name. But with the popularity of Caden ( and all the other "Aiden" sounding names), it seems like Cadence is just an attempt to feminize and over-popular boys name.

What is the most unusual, or wildest, or strangest name you've heard that parents have given their children?
The name Nevaeh, pronounced ne-vay-uh, with the emphasis on the second syllable, 'vay' it's by far the most unusual name I've heard. It is Heaven spelled backwards.
Pretty unique.
Another one is someone I knew in high school. Her name was Dannyris. But it was pronounced dan-ee tees. It was a beautiful Spanish name and when her mom said it it was even more beautiful because of her Spanish accent.

Well my mom used to work at a hospital and she had 2 weird ones... The first was a set of twins and the mom was black and one of the kids came out as black and can be and the other white so she named them salt and pepper.
The 2nd was also twins boy girl twins and the mom never named them so it stayed male and female on the birth certificate so the mom just called them that except she pronounced it a lil different like mall and femall

Is 5 generations all alive at the same time, same first name, unusual/ a record?
Possibly a record, you might like to as the Guinness Book oof Records, if it is a record the name will be remembered. I bet the postman hs a job, especiall if they all come from the one address!
Is 5 generations all alive at the same time, same first name, unusual/ a record?
Is that even possible? It would have to be
1)children
2)parents
3)grandparents
4)great-grandparents
5)great-great grandparents.
I've never known anyone who's known their great-great-grandparents. And my family has all had kids fairly young (like very early 20s if even that late)
Reply:yeah its possible
i saw a news report on this about 2months ago
basically the whole family gave birth at young ages .. between 12 -16 years old which meant that the great grand parents where still young by time they had great great gran kids
Reply:Same first name is probable a record. 5 generations alive at once isn't. When my cousin's son was born there were 5 generations on the mams side.
Reply:5 generations wouldnt be completly out of the ordinary!
as for each having the same name.......eh no!
but its interesting i bet nobody else you know has a family like that!
Reply:I had a mate called John who's family tradition was to name any boy's John, so his dad, his brother and his son were all Johns, funny but confusing at family get togethers.

Why do race horses have such unusual names?
Like "Comply or Die" or names like, say, "Mr Jones's Winnings" or "Sitting on The Fence" (last two made up, but wouldn't surprise me if these names existed).
Have always wondered this.
Why do race horses have such unusual names?
Well allot of breeders want or try to use he parents names
But if both of them have not very good names silly ones are made up
But if you really pay attiention Most real winners have good names , strong names
Not all but most
Example Father's name is Romeo So they name the filly
Love Conquers All ,,,,, I named mine,, OH Romero Oh Romeo
Yes and all the rules but THATS NOT WHAT YOU ASKED
Reply:Racehorses can be named pretty much anything, within reason, as long as you obey some simple rules, such as:
Names not longer than 18 characters (in spaces)
Names must not be offensive or vulgar.
Names on the "protected list" cannot be reused - such as Shergar, Red Rum, Mill Reef, etc.
Some owners like to use themes when naming their horses - such as the Westbrooks who always name thier horses starting with "Bollin".
Other owners like to use a name that means something to them, or will use a combination of the name of the Sire and Dam (Father and Mother) names.
For the record RED RUM was NOT named after the line in the film. He was given the name as it is a combination of his father and mothers names - QuoRUM and MaRED.
UPDATE - I'd just like to add that names CAN be used again providing that the name is not on the "protected names" list and that the original horse has been dead for 5 years (10 years if the horse went to stud).
It is also possible for two horses to have the same name at the same time, providing that they were born and registered in different countries.
For example, there are currently two mares names Gossamer:
http://www.pedigreequery.com/gossamer3
http://www.pedigreequery.com/gossamer7
Two mares named NUANCE:
http://www.pedigreequery.com/nuance2
http://www.pedigreequery.com/nuance8
Reply:Well owners have to pick unique names because if the names was used before it can not be used again. They are all registered and so it makes it hard to come up with a name no one else has already used. I agree with you they can get silly sometimes :)
Reply:this is because the breeders will have a certain set of names they can use which is the first bit and then the horses have there own names it is normally the case where those names are just for eventing and races but they will have an "improper name" they get called by there rider/owner
Reply:No race horse can have the same name.. when you go to name your horse you must give 3 options. and usually they give a comno of the mom and dads name. And you got to admitt it wouldnt be as cool if the announcers says " out of the gate Bob got the lead 1/2 a furlong behind Tim " that juts sound boring. Now Devils Launch.. Onza De Oro ect that sounds alot better ;)
Reply:The Jockey Club rules dictate guidelines for naming thoroughbreds.
Very often breeders and or owners will artfully and vicariously submit names for approval.
Example:
Native Dancer - by Polynesian out of Geisha
Reply:Every racehorse is registered and so they cannot have the same name as any other horse that has run for at least 10-15 years. When they leave racing the name usually changes! So, I suppose lack of names is the only cause.
Reply:usually to please the punters,to make money thats why they give them catchy names so they remind someone or trigger a memory,so they the public, put a bet on them, thats what i think anyway.peace.
Reply:i guess cos people bet on them so they give them names that will appeal to people and get the horse noticed
red rum is the most famous grand national horse, and he was named after a very famous line from a very famous film
Reply:they are soppoused to be unque and diffrent from the othersand none can be the same.usually it is the sire and the dams name mixed toghter
plz excuse the miss spelling
~ad
Reply:a good question, i would be really interested in people from the racing fraternity telling us. I like your made up names too.
Reply:they are named by unusual people!

Baby name ideas...exotic/unusual names are the best?
We're having another girl! I need name help. I like names that aren't too weird (Names like Peaches Honeyblossom are too much.) My other girl's name is Bethany Autumn...it's unusual but easy on the ears. So, if we could keep with that general trend, that'd be great. Any ideas? I really will name my kid the name if you give me a good one.
Baby name ideas...exotic/unusual names are the best?
The poor little ankle biter is going to have to live with the name you give her. Don't make her a laughing stock, allowing kids to taunt her for the unusual name.
Cindy, Pamela, Sandra, Kimberly, Jennifer, these are all beautiful names, and they won't bring torment upon the poor little rug rat.

Who has the most unusual middle name?
I like to ask people what their middle names are and many times there is a story behind it. Whats your middle name and why did mum or dad choose it?
Who has the most unusual middle name?
It's Erica... not so unusual. My father gave me that middle name in honor of his father Eric. They never got along, always faught, etc... then in my dad's adult life, they began to make peace with each other... so my dad gave me that name in honor of him. It's funny, but my dad and I had a similar relationship that my father had with his father. Now we've made peace with each other. I guess If I have a daughter, I'll make her middle name Paula (after my dad Paul). Not particularly fond of the name, but I'll carry on the tradition :)
Reply:passion, my parents said when they came up with that name it was in the middle of passion what ever that mean..lol
Reply:J. C. Penney had a most interesting middle name.
Reply:Alberta. As in Alberta, Canada. My parents honeymooned there. I've always thought it was a nice original name, but I don't like the strong link it has to my parents since we have a bad relationship. I've yet to visit Alberta, but I really want to.

My first name isn't so bad though, thank goodness.

Reply:My friend's middle name is Aqua. I think that's strange/cool.
Mine is Dene (pronounced deenay). Ummm, I don't know why they chose it. My dad named me and he has yet to tell me why I have such a strange name.
My first name isn't so bad though, thank goodness.
Reply:mine's Erling. it's my grandpa's first name
Reply:Mine is Louise....and i dont know why they chose that
Reply:Mine is "King"...don't know why....weird.

Do them a favor, if you're going to give them a stupid first name, give them a normal middle name like James or Mary so that they can skip embarrassment and go by their middle name. Seriously, think about how you could ruin someone's life just because you want some stupid crazy name.

What a lot of Puerto Ricans do is we take part of the father's first name and part of the mother's first name and join them to make the baby's name. Sometimes you can come up with some incredibly strange names that way. Francisco and Melissa could be Franlissa, or Vanessa and Rodrigo could be Vandrigo or Ronessa. Usually works best for girl's names.
But you could always go for my personal weird-name favorite: Janluis Chupacabras III :D

Why do people tend to shy away from more unusual names?
My name is Kelly, and I always hated that every 3rd girl in school had the same name as I did! Wouldn't you think that a name not in common usage would help to set your child apart?

I assume you mean less common names, like Adelaide, Leonora, Carina, etc.
I actually don't know. I love some offbeat names, like Willa, Bernadette and Larissa, but I love the classics too, like Victoria (my own name), Rebecca, Grace and Marie. I would never use a name when it was #1 or something like that. I can't believe the number of Danielle's, Emily's and Sarah's I know. It's particularly annoying. Especially when I'm trying to tell stories.
But I agree. Totally.

Reply:I don't think people shy away from less common names if you are talking about actual real names - The kind that are no longer in common use (like Harold or Beatrice) or more ethnic names that reflect there heritage (like Seamus or Nzinga) but when it comes to the "I just drew alphabet letters out of a bowl and put them together to see what I could come up with" names, I think there is a good reason to shy away from those. You have to consider the child will live with the name you give them for life. It should be a name they can be proud of and not embarrassed by.
Reply:Beacuse some people like to have all friends that have the same name so they can do evil to one named that and talk good about the other named that and not appear wrong!
Reply:Kelly is a lovely name. I like it. Children, with unusual names, are often teased, if they have an unusual, different, difficult name to pronounce.
Kelly, enjoy and embrace your lovely name and thank your parents for giving you such a nice name.
Reply:I didn't name my kids funnt to set them apart. I did it so they would feel unique and know that I put a lot of thought into their names. I have a Maricela, a Tarrin and a Cullen. Unfortunately, I'm out of ideas, so if I have another one, i am so screwed.
Reply:i like a name thats common enough to find on pencils and rulers but not one that is very popular that every kid has...didnt you ever get excited finding your name on a ruler or pencil or license plate??
Reply:Alot of people are afraid that their child will get made fun of.
That is what i think.
I would rather name a girl (if i had one) Shady then to name her Madison.
Reply:I don't mind unusual names, but I don't like names that are hard to spell or hard to pronounce. I can't imagine the child would have an easy time. I also don't like names that are things spelled backwards (Nevaeh, Legna, Epoh...)
Reply:ive always thought that.like people who name there kids Ashley or Chelsea those were common names in my school...never heard the name kelly in my school if im not mistaking
Reply:I have a name that isn't particularly popular - I was never able to find erasers or combs with my name. I guess when I was little I was a little sad but not terribly so. I love my name now (well I go by my nickname, my full name (Margaret) is wayyyyy to formal for me).
I love unusual names (within reason), particularly when they are somewhat short (Jade, Allory, Sandy (short for Alexander), Sage..etc). They stand out and as long as the child has the personality for the name, it's great!
Cheers!
Reply:Ok, I am laughing to your question here, cause I feel the same exact way (mind you I still don't have a very common name) but I had like 3 Jennifers in my class, 5 Adams, 4 Chris' (you get the idea)
I like it when people go out and grab a name that isn't 'in style' hate to say it but you do notice things like that! My husband and I have already chose the names of our future children (mind you we have one on the way now) and they aren't even close to common, especially one that is straight from Greece, and neither of us are Greek, it makes for interesting conversation!
Reply:Beats the hell out of me. My son's name is Kamdor Ninjor.
Reply:Not necessarily. The childs personality will do that!! :o)
Reply:I have a very uncommon name. I have only known 4 people up to now who has my name. And pls don't think, I am being pompous, but whenever a person hear my name for the first time, they say me, 'that's a pretty name', because it is uncommon. So having a uncommon name has that little advantage if the name is pretty. yes, I think parents should go for more uncommon ,meaningful and beautiful names as variety is always beautiful. It also adds a individuality to the nameholder.
Reply:Well i wouldnt want anything too weird for my kids or too modern. I like normal names that are not to common. But, i am from another country so by default i get the option of using slightly altered names or different for america.
The name Kelly for example wouldnt be common at all in lets say Russia, but it would still work because it can be adopted to that alphabet.
