What's up with these parents who think they have to name their children weird or unusual names?

What has everyone named their kids? Mine are Jonathan Paul, Christipher Ryan, and Emily Nicole

What's up with these parents who think they have to name their children weird or unusual names?
I do not have any kids. But I've wondered about this for a long time. I used to be a teacher's assistant in a kindergarten classroom and I could hardly pronounce some of those poor kids names, and there was not one Michael, Thomas, Emily, or Katherine in sight! They were all really odd names. I feel bad for teachers.
Reply:Most of the time it's because their name is weird and unique...Like mine...I love Jypcee...My daughter's name is De'Jah and my son's name is Romeo...keeping the unique name thing alive....
Reply:We're more globally connected. We're seeing a lot of names that sound unique to us, that are probably pretty common in other cultures. I think that gives some everyone more freedom, and in some cases, more desire to want and use a unique name also.
Reply:who knows, mine are

Jonathon Taylor

Christian Levi %26amp;

Conner James
Reply:There's nothing wrong with wanting your child to have their own name. I know personally how annoying it is to have a name just like everyone else. In school, teacher says, "Jessica" and three other girls look. At work boss calls Jessica and two other waitresses come to his attention.

My daughters names are:

Thai Lyn, Hunter Laine and Callie Belle.

My future children:

Girls:

Kieran Avery

Vaeda Rayne

Zoren Yvaine

Boys:

Silas Cole

Sylar Brandt

Greyson Stone
Reply:Personally, I like unusual and made up names.

Did you know that in the 1700s, 90% of men and 80% women in England had names that were in the top 10? Can you imagine how confusing (and boring) that would have been? LAME!!!! Aren't you glad that at least SOME of the parents back then decided to choose "unusal" names so that we could have some variety?

At least there are now more choices among "normal" names, but I admire parents who are willing to give their children unique and special names. I agree that SOME people do go too far though, but most unique names are still tasteful and work great!
Reply:Someone in New Zealand tried to name their child 4sure, but weren't allowed because it has a number in it :p

My dad works in education, and he's heard some corkers!

Dwain pipe

Custard Splat

Les Banne

And Obviously, Hugh Jass.

My name's Freya, and i love it tbh! I have a friend called kayleigh, which is a good name too!
Reply:I like different an unusual names. I think it shows character and originality. And the most important thing to remember, is that it is all about opinions. My kids are Shane, Damien, Kiernan, Rylan, and Mitchell. I think that they are original and they don't know anyone else with their names.

Mainly - it is just people's different opinions.
Reply:My full names Rebecca, I bloody hate how there are atleast 5 other Rebeccas in my YEAR at school, let alone the rest of the school..

My shortened name is Becci. When I was younger I spelt it the same way as everyone else (Becky) but when I was old enough to know there were other ways I could spell it, I changed how I spelt it. It made a big difference to me, I'm not Becky C (in comparison to Rebecca, Becky J, Becky B Becky S %26amp; Bex) anymore, I can be Becci.

When I have children, I'll name them something weird and unusual, so they are unique.

But I think it'll be something that has the option of having a normal nickame.

Like.. Alabama. She could be called Ally, or Bambi, or take her whole name depending on whether she wants to have an original name or a "normal" one.

Its all about personal choice.
Reply:Don't ever trust people with two first names O.o

Reply:My kids names are:

Justin Karl-(25)

Kaylee Ann Lacy-(14)

Your kids have nice names....
Reply:I wouldn't be indulging my kids names over the net, never know who could get the info, thats just wrong!

Anyways - i guess people use 'weird' or 'unusual' name so they aren't perceived as black sheep. Doesn't make your kids better cos they have more common names?

Imagine if everyone had the same names?

Hmmm, how ******* boring life would be?
Reply:When it comes to baby names I say YOU NAME YOUR CHILDREN AND I'LL NAME MINE! I hate it when people criticize you about the names you like for YOUR OWN kids. I think people should name their kids the names that they love, whether it be common or unusual.
Reply:I call it the Michelle-and-Katie syndrome. I think a lot of the generation that are parents now grew up with a lot of the kids in their class having the same names... so people are trying to differentiate their own kids as much as possible. Okay fine - but there's a point when it just gets weird! Lol.
Reply:I personally don't want to name mine a name that 10 other kids in their class is going to have. It's the parents decision though.

I really don't like the made up names . Ethnic names are nice as long as they have a meaning.
Reply:PERSONAL CHOICE. YOU NAME YOUR CHILDREN . MY DAUGHTERS NAME IS FARRAH MONET. I LOVED THE NAME FARRAH BUT SOME PEOPLE LOOKED AT ME FUNNY. WHO CARES WHAT OTHERS THINK???
Reply:I want my child to have a unique name. My name is Amber and everywhere I went as a kid, I would hear my name being called out. 95% of the time it wasn't for me. I want my baby to have a special name...what's wrong with that?
Reply:Thank you! i think the same thing!!!!
Reply:your children are lucky...very nice names...

i totally agree,,,i'm against parents naming their child names like 'manchester united' or ' pizza' or 'lasagna'...like come on !!! are you kidding me?...

keep up your good work...

and OMG your name is awesome...it's so...so...nice...i got no other word to say...i love the Reena part...your mom is a genius...you got her naming genes... seriously
Reply:I know!!!! It's sad to see a parent's ignorance be saddled on a child! Oh well, just be proud you gave your children such nice names!
Reply:I have 3 kids:

Boy - Meth (10 months)

Girl - Weed (1 day old)

Boy - Pot (1 day old)
