If you had a name that was unusual and difficult for some people to pronounce?

Would you go by a shortened version of that name? I have a name that some people find difficult to pronounce, but that many say is very pretty. I'm getting tired of having to correct people all the time, but at the same time I feel weird shortening it. My name is Sureka, pronounced (Soo-ree-kah). I could shorten it to just Sue. What do you think?

Eh, Sue? No, keep your name as it is. Your name is unique, it's my first time hearing it. Just correct people; make them learn something new for the day. 1
Reply:I do have a name that is difficult to pronounce, yet very pretty .. so I go by Mo. I cut people lots of slack when they massacre the pronunciation of my full name.

I think Sue is a great short name. Even just Su is good. You'll get used to the shortened version after a few months of learning to respond to it when called.
Reply:If you like Sue better, then go for it. Sureka is a nice name, it must mean something special.

Or you could be called "Suri" like Tom Cruises baby, thats also cute.

Whatever you chose, best of luck.

BTW, my name is Suzie, so I get the "Sue" alot, lol.
Reply:I have a difficult and hard to pronounced name. I go by a shortened version of my name. I think that it's a good idea to change your name so people can pronounce it better.
Reply:No, you should NOT! It is your name, just because someone doesn't know how to pronounce it doesn't mean you should change it. Be proud of your unique name.

PS. I think that name is HIDEOUS!
Reply:NO! Don't your name is beautiful. my mom's name is Deirdre (dare dra) and everyone calls her deedra (even her good friends). At least people can prenounce yours when you say it.
Reply:Your name is nice. Don't change it.
