I need a female first name, something unusual and old fashioned. Any ideas?

I don't want anything fussy or silly, something elegant. It needs to sound good with the surname 'Ruthven'.

I need a female first name, something unusual and old fashioned. Any ideas?
I'd suggest...

Nadine Ruthven

OR

Francine Ruthven.

Hope this helps.

**Edit: Other options would be "Frances" or "Rita" Ruthven.
Reply:I would recommend:

Natalia Faith

Patience Elizabeth

Charlotte Grace

Mary Faith or Mary Katherine (and call her by both names, not just Mary)

Anna Claire

Anne Elizabeth

Elizabeth Mae

Genevieve Elise

Anais Faith (pronounced ah-NYE-iss)

None of them are really super-unusual, but they are not super-common, either, and I think they are all classy and elegant.

Steer clear of Emily, Isabella, Emma, Ava, Madison, Sophia, Olivia, Abigail, and Hannah - although they are lovely names, they are all in the top 10 baby names, and verrrrry popular. (Elizabeth is, too, but it's just such an enduring classic - not like some of the others, whose meteoric rise to popularity was very recent).

I'd also steer clear of the #11-20 names, if you are looking to keep it on the "unusual" side. Those names are: Addison, Samantha, Ashley, Alyssa, Mia, Chloe, Natalie, Sarah, Alexis, and Grace. Again, perfectly lovely names, some of which I adore and have included as middle names (or variations of as first names) on the list I created - but just not "unusual" at the moment.

Best of luck to you!

There are a lot of classic names out there to choose from. You can go to http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/

and choose any year after 1879 and get the most popular names from that year. A lot of the older ones have really pretty and classic names that aren't really used any more.
Reply:Katherine, Candice, Grace (totally my favorite if I had a daughter) Meridith, Natalia, Natalie, Beatrice, Magda, Julia, Brooklyn, Roberta, Carmen, Ruby, Francesca, Mallory or Frances.
