I meet many children through work and have met girls called Lyric, Jurney and Dayspring (all Australian/English names). I wondered what unusual names other people have heard among English speaking nations?

Reply:Yes desire is just wrong! desiree is not the same. (desire is dee- zeye- er). (Desiree is dez-i-ray)People just go too far with their own thoughts at times. I heard of Dream for a boy and Magic. I like Miracle because it has meaning for ex. one parent had many problems during pregnancy and therefore her daughter was a Miracle.
Reply:Ok Desire is a bit creepy. At first I thought it said Desiree which is a normal name but Desire...odd. Maybe they spelt it wrong, how was it pronounced?
The weirdest name I have heard of was Wednesday. I know there are some others but I can't place them right now! I heard of an Indigo.
Harriet

Reply:I am Australian I used to work it childcare we had some kids there with weird names:
A little girl called Marzipan- (her mother apparently had carvings for Marzipan Icing it when she was pregnant) she was Marzi for short but i thought it was a pretty bad name.
Another little girl called Joeley (as in Joel-leigh)- not a terrible terrible name but i thought it was a bit unusual.
We had a little boy called Wispa (as in whisper) and his brother's name was Echo. Now they were a strange family.
We also had a couple of Neveah's (as in heaven spelt backwards) people think this is a nice name but i think it sounds terrible.
A really unusual name that i actually really like is my friends son's name it's Darshen- i think it's an indian name. I quite like it and think it really suits him.
My daughter's name is Chailee- it's a hebrew name and it means message from God. I think it's a rather unusual name- i've never met anyone else called this before, but i adore the name. (hence why i called my daughter Chailee)
