Our last name is Jackson and my husband wants to name her Jazzy Jay. We were thinking about Jasmine and I said we could call her Jazzy for short. But, he wants Jazzy to be her name.
What do you think about this unusual name for a girl?

Reply:My name is Jasmine and I go by Jazz but not Jazzy. Jazzy makes me think that something is happening, it's like a verb, something is sparkling or being danced or being played in a lounge club. Jazz is more neutral, it can be used in any way, Jasmine, however, is more of a name and I think that your husband should be more on your side about it. Jasmine is a beautiful name, he can call her Jazzy all he wants and when she gets older she can make her own decisions on what she likes, but there should be room for options. I don't like names that don't have options.
Reply:i think you should keep her name as jasmine. jazzy is more of a nick name thing. my cousins name is actually jasmine and we call her jazzy or jaz so i mean its all up to you. but this is just my opinion. I dont think people would take her name seriously when she gets older for jobs and things of that sort.
Reply:I wouldn't use that as a legal name - if she ends up as a doctor, or a lawyer, or a politician, it would make it harder for her to be taken seriously. I'd call her Jasmine on the birth certificate and use Jazzy as a nickname.
Reply:I wouldn't do just Jazzy. Jazzy is very tacky as a given name. Jasmine works better as a given name with the nickname Jazzy. He could always call her Jazzy but she would have Jasmine to fall back on when Jazzy would become too childish and immature for her.
Reply:Jazzy Jay Jackson. Well, it is definitely a name that will get her noticed. When I read the name, I immediately thought of DJ Jazzy Jay. lol. But, anyway, I don't think it is too bad but it will make her stand out.
Reply:Did you ever watch the fresh prince of belair?
Jazzy reminds me of Jazz (the weird screw-ball, best friend of will smith)
I absolutely love the name Jasmine though, and yeah, call her Jazzy- but dont permanently give her that name,,,,no no no
Reply:Go with Jasmine and call her Jazzy.

Reply:wow. um... i definitely think her full name should be jasmine. jazzy jay is just too bizzare. jasmine jay jackson is a whole lot better.
Reply:No. It looks like stripper name. Imagine a potential employer seeing that on a resume?? Jazzy can be a nickname.
Reply:I like Jasmine much better than Jazzy. Also, I think that you should pick a different middle name. It has too many J's in it.
Reply:I like Jasmine so much better! Can you imagine a girl in the professional world named Jazzy Jay Jackson?? I think you should name her Jazmin Jaelyn Jackson. :)
Reply:I like the idea of Jasmine as her real name. Jazzy comes off as a novelty, but whatever you want is best... who cares what the neighbors think?
Reply:No. I would do Jasmine as her full, legal name. And to be honest, Jasmine Jackson sounds a little much.
Reply:Dont name her Jazzy. Although cute for a small kid, not so much for a grown up. Name her Jasmine and just call her Jazzy
Reply:I think her name should be Jasmine. She might not want a nickname. Or it could be Jazmine.
Reply:My husbands sister is named Jasmine and we call her Jazzy...i wouldnt use Jazzy for a first name though...you could use....jasmine...jazelle...etc.
Reply:*Jazz Hands*

Reply:too may j's for me.
Reply:I think that name is ok :)
Reply:i honestly think that is very unique. but it does remind me of jazz from the fresh prince of belair
