This highly unusual name from a book?

a couple of years ago, i read a book called Belle Prater's Boy and there was a girl in it called Gypsy.

what do you think of that name?

just curious to see what everyone thinks.

This highly unusual name from a book?
no
Reply:I actually know a woman named Gypsy. I love her name.. but, she was born in the 60's and was a bit of a hippy so, you know how that goes.... I think her daughter is actually named Sunshine, and I'm not kidding!!! lol ;)
Reply:Um, no.
Reply:Not a first name but maybe a middle name. I think first names should be a bit calmer because that is what you will call them by. The middle name can be as crazy as you want as long as it flows. It is unique but not stupid that way. :)
Reply:I don't care for it. I could see an actress giving their child that name. So you have to be kinda goofy to name a kid that.
Reply:I personally don't like it, it's a name of an ethnic group. But I know some uncommon names from books: Hermione, Esmeralda, Atticus, Albus, Ginevra, Sirius, Regulus, orion and other Harry Potter characters.
Reply:i would never call any one that

no offense to people who like it or whatever but

not for me

...
Reply:Gypsy Rose Lee, the stripper. If you have a handy nickname ready, you could chance it, but it's a real gamble. Gyp is a bad nickname. That actress from Sopranos named her baby Gypsyrose.
Reply:not a good name. but it all depends on the character.
Reply:I have seen a girl named Gypsy-Rose but it is not really my type of name.
Reply:That would be cute...if you were naming a cat! Not for a baby though! There are too many negative connotations associated with the term Gypsy.

Do you have an unusual name, and do you like it?

I'm tired of hearing people complain and/or think it's cruel when parents name their kids something other than Emma and Jacob (or the other popular names of the year).

Everyone I know who has a unique name loves it and flaunts it. Why are people so afraid of a little variety or excentricity? What do you think?

Do you have an unusual name, and do you like it?

Happy writing, kiddo!

What is the name of the company that offers unusual overnight trips from London to see the Northern Lights?

I saw an ad in the metro but can't seem to find the name of the travel group. They were offering a number of unusual trips including an overnight trip leaving from Gatwick that takes you to see the Northern Lights in Scandanavia and then brings you straight back to London...

What is the name of the company that offers unusual overnight trips from London to see the Northern Lights?
Overnight? Don't bother.

The Northern Lights are at a relatively low em at the moment, so the chances of you overnighting in Scandanavia and seeing the lights are low. Also, the a moderate chance that the weather will get in the way as well. I'd view it as too much of a risk.

You really need to go somewhere for about a week for a much improved chance. Ideally that should be in Alaska, near Fairbanks over which the lights can be seen on a very regular basis.

The lights aren't centered over the North Pole you see, but over North West Canada and Alaska.

Obviously - there's a cost issue there. So going to Scandanavia and surrounding areas may well work but a) they won't be as bright and b) there's a reduced chance of seeing them.

And no, sorry, I don't know the name of the company.

Which unusual name do you like the best?

Girls: Emireth, Areida, ILona, Areya, Starra, Astrid

Boys: Lukin, Trak, Bristol, Trig, Darius, Jareth, Storm

Which unusual name do you like the best?
Girls: Astrid

Just beautiful!

Boys: Jareth.

Lovely.
Reply:Astrid is a lovely Norwegian name. Thumbs up!

The rest are eminently forgettable at best and rather brainless at worst.

None of the boy's names are worth considering. They are uniformly terrible.

Decent variations would include

Luke/Lucas for Lukin

Tariq for Trak

Travis for Bristol (Bristol means "site of the bridge" while Travis is the "toll-taker" on the bridge)

Trygve is the traditional spelling of Trig (lazy way of spelling it). Trygve is pronounced trig-vah (trig - rhymes with BIG and vah - rhymes with PA (FATHER)

Darius: way, way over-used, boring, and forgettable

Either Jared or Gareth is preferable. Jareth sounds like a kid with a really bad lisp. Squishing names together rarely gives a satisfactory result.

Storm is just downright silly, theatrical, and melodramatic.
Reply:When it comes to picking unusual names you need to consider how the child is going to be mocked by others for it. You may not be pregnant but you need to consider this when picking out names one day.
Reply:i hate trak. it is a flat oval of rubbery tar. maybe she was thinking of the abstract idea, like track and field, but to me, an image of flat asphalt comes to mind - what? trig is bad too.

i pick astrid
Reply:Astrid, I think it's beautiful like the stars haha.

Trak, sounds like never-ending, winding road.
Reply:girls: i really like areida and areya those are both really pretty =)
