There is nothing unusual about any name! Auron happens to have a very nice timbre to it and it has a nice meaning too. It means 'golden one' or 'child of light'.

My boyfriend is called Baden - he has never met another one - only downside is that when he is telling people his name they always go

My other half liked the name NEON, and thought it original, however I checked it out on

and there were loads, he was quite disappointed that it wasn't as 'weird' and original as he thought it would be.

Watch a favorite movie or read a book and pick out a word that you like the sound of or the feel of it rolling off your tongue! Or look in a baby name book for names from other countries they are unusal to us. But here are my cousins names my aunt was kind of creative first my Aunt's name is Willow, her 4 daughters all start with W's. Wylene, Wendy, Wadine, Winnette. Wendy is the only normal name but it was almost Wendaline. So changing letters around on knonw names is a way to unusual too! I had a friend that like the names from the greek gods and astrology too! my sister-in-law has a Cadence, a good friend of mine has a Kaydence and my neighbor also has a Cadence, but I'm not sure how she spells it. (all 18 months and younger) There is also two little girls in my sons daycare named Kaidyn and Cadyn (about 2 1/2 ) and they sound pretty similar to Cadence.

I know its a name that has been around for a long time, and its a beautiful name. But with the popularity of Caden ( and all the other "Aiden" sounding names), it seems like Cadence is just an attempt to feminize and over-popular boys name.

The name Nevaeh, pronounced ne-vay-uh, with the emphasis on the second syllable, 'vay' it's by far the most unusual name I've heard. It is Heaven spelled backwards.

Pretty unique.

Another one is someone I knew in high school. Her name was Dannyris. But it was pronounced dan-ee tees. It was a beautiful Spanish name and when her mom said it it was even more beautiful because of her Spanish accent.

Well my mom used to work at a hospital and she had 2 weird ones... The first was a set of twins and the mom was black and one of the kids came out as black and can be and the other white so she named them salt and pepper.

We're having another girl! I need name help. I like names that aren't too weird (Names like Peaches Honeyblossom are too much.) My other girl's name is Bethany Autumn...it's unusual but easy on the ears. So, if we could keep with that general trend, that'd be great. Any ideas? I was not christened I was dedicated and called Miriam after my grandmother. I had an adult babtism but did not take a new name Muslims try and tell me I am Mariam as if I don't know my own name ??

I like to ask people what their middle names are and many times there is a story behind it. Whats your middle name and why did mum or dad choose it?

It's Erica... not so unusual. My father gave me that middle name in honor of his father Eric. They never got along, always faught, etc... then in my dad's adult life, they began to make peace with each other... so my dad gave me that name in honor of him. It's funny, but my dad and I had a similar relationship that my father had with his father. Now we've made peace with each other. I guess If I have a daughter, I'll make her middle name Paula (after my dad Paul). Not particularly fond of the name, but I'll carry on the tradition :)

Reply:Just keep in mind, these babies will grow up to be people, and just think about how humiliating it would be for them to have to grow up with a name just because you think it's a game or something. Do them a favor, if you're going to give them a stupid first name, give them a normal middle name like James or Mary so that they can skip embarrassment and go by their middle name. These are all real names I have heard/seen myself.

What a lot of Puerto Ricans do is we take part of the father's first name and part of the mother's first name and join them to make the baby's name. Sometimes you can come up with some incredibly strange names that way. Francisco and Melissa could be Franlissa, or Vanessa and Rodrigo could be Vandrigo or Ronessa. Usually works best for girl's names.

But you could always go for my personal weird-name favorite: Janluis Chupacabras III :D

My name is Kelly, and I always hated that every 3rd girl in school had the same name as I did! Wouldn't you think that a name not in common usage would help to set your child apart?

I assume you mean less common names, like Adelaide, Leonora, Carina, etc.

I actually don't know. I love some offbeat names, like Willa, Bernadette and Larissa, but I love the classics too, like Victoria (my own name), Rebecca, Grace and Marie. I would never use a name when it was #1 or something like that. I can't believe the number of Danielle's, Emily's and Sarah's I know. It's particularly annoying. Especially when I'm trying to tell stories.

Reply:I don't think people shy away from less common names if you are talking about actual real names - The kind that are no longer in common use (like Harold or Beatrice) or more ethnic names that reflect there heritage (like Seamus or Nzinga) but when it comes to the "I just drew alphabet letters out of a bowl and put them together to see what I could come up with" names, I think there is a good reason to shy away from those. You have to consider the child will live with the name you give them for life. It should be a name they can be proud of and not embarrassed by.

Reply:I have a name that isn't particularly popular - I was never able to find erasers or combs with my name. I guess when I was little I was a little sad but not terribly so. I love my name now (well I go by my nickname, my full name (Margaret) is wayyyyy to formal for me).

I love unusual names (within reason), particularly when they are somewhat short (Jade, Allory, Sandy (short for Alexander), Sage..etc). They stand out and as long as the child has the personality for the name, it's great!

I like it when people go out and grab a name that isn't 'in style' hate to say it but you do notice things like that! And pls don't think, I am being pompous, but whenever a person hear my name for the first time, they say me, 'that's a pretty name', because it is uncommon. So having a uncommon name has that little advantage if the name is pretty. yes, I think parents should go for more uncommon ,meaningful and beautiful names as variety is always beautiful. It also adds a individuality to the nameholder.
Reply:Well i wouldnt want anything too weird for my kids or too modern. I like normal names that are not to common. But, i am from another country so by default i get the option of using slightly altered names or different for america.

The name Kelly for example wouldnt be common at all in lets say Russia, but it would still work because it can be adopted to that alphabet.

I think Nevea Myah is beautiful. However I must offer a bit of advice. As a mother of 7 girls with unusual names, it is always wise that if you are giving one unusual name, choose the other to be easy. Example

Nevea Marie

Myah Leann

The reasons for this are

1. Your child may want a "normal" name later on this way they have a choice given by you that you approve

2.They will contantly have to spell one of their names for people and pronounce them too, make it easier so they don't have to spell both names out all the time.

3. If they have an unusual last name also it will cause alot of confusion.

My name is Jade and I have a common last name, I get asked to spell them both all the time. It gets old!

I hope this helps some, food for thought you know. You of course are the only one who can decide, just want you to be informed from someone who understands the other side of it.

If people couldn't pronounce your name (like 98% of people can't)... would you change it out of convenience? Also, if people asked about your background when they heard your name.. and it annoyed you.

I would much rather have an uncommon name. It becomes part of your identity and it separates you from the rest of the pack. I don't see why it would annoy you to answer a few questions about your background. The only reason they are asking is because they are interested and want to know more about you. And when it comes to people not being able to pronounce your name because its uncommon, i know plenty of people that can't pronounce common names incorrectly. Such as people that say Micheal instead of Michelle. That annoys me more than anything else because it tells me that people can't read.

Reply:I don't mind it so much. It HAS been a pain to constantly have to spell it for people, though. I think you do your child a favor if you just name her Rebecca rather than Ribekka or Rebekhe.

I know people with even more unusual names and sometimes I feel like they have to "live up to" how fancy it is, whereas those with common names just make it their own.

I would honestly feel like I was striking out at my parents who named me if I changed it, but there are down sides to having a name that isn't "Jennifer."

Her mum and dad are musicians and I think they wanted to name their children after something they loved. Lyric's brother is name Noten (Note-EN).

I never made fun of it I am too mature for that but Lyric told me she has a hard time at school. Kids are so god damn cruel! Then again some people may say her parents are cruel for naming her that. Personally I think Lyric is a beautiful name. The meaning just gets in the way.

Reply:It does sound a little made up. I think it is a fun name, unusual, but fun. If your worried that he will not like it you could give him a more traditional middle name that he could use instead. Remember that he has to go through life with the name that you gave him.

Whatever name you pick, make sure that it's a name that you know the meaning of and that you like that meaning.

I think that apart from sounding cute or unusual, the meaning of a name is most important, because every time you call that child by its name, you are invoking the meaning of that name in its life and you want to invoke only good things. And don't worry about the child having to spell his/her name all the time. It's the meaning you care about. I have to spell my name most of the time and it doesn't bother me one bit.

My name's Blessing. As in God's blessing. Seriously.

I know of people with names pronounced Sun-se-reen and sun-See-ray ... no idea how to spell the actual names, but I I only know of 2 people in my 37 years that have those names, so they aren't exactly common. And I can't find them in any baby book either. (when I was a kid I thought they were pretty cool names, so I looked for the meanings - no such luck.)

When naming your children or names that you like, do they tend to be more common names or do you prefer unusual names?

i prefer classic, timeless names.....but i wouldn't call them "common." for example, i think that the name sebastian is classically beautiful but it's not like everyone is rushing to name their child sebastian.

names that stand the test of time are classy....i hate names that scream, "my mommy tried too hard."
Reply:I tend to lean towards more classic, yet still uncommon names for both genders. With girls, I like names like Alice, Hazel, Estella, Violet, and Elspeth.

I tend to love names people consider “feminine” on my boys such as Finley, Rowan, Aubrey, and Sage. Though they are completely masculine names in origin, I’ve seen them labeled as “girl’s names” around. More recently though, I’ve taken to Biblical names for my boys. Elijah, Jonah, and Matthew are quickly becoming my favorites.

I hate misspellings of names like flipping Emmaleigh or crap like that when the original proper spelling is Emily, I love the proper spellings of names. and I hate unisex names. So in my eyes Jordan, Riley and Rory are all boys names because they started out as boys names. I will never see them as girl names because they aren't.

If I like a name, and I start to hear other people talk about it in real life, then I tend to not like it as much anymore. It loses some of it's appeal. It's not so much that I hate common names it's that I like names that give me a certain feel. And usually that feel is somewhat artsy and different.

Reply:Unusual for everywhere else but traditional where we live (Norway, but we're immigrants from the US and the UK). We will probably use Alma, Amalia or Solveig (SOUL vay) for a girl and Rune (RUE neh), Haakon (Hawk for short), Leon or Audun for a boy.

We figure with our last names (a double-barrel surname that is half Scottish, half Croatian, and completely unpronounceable to Norwegians), they will have a hard enough time here. The names also need to make sense to our English-speaking families.

Some of my fav. ideas for boy names right now for example are: Cambria, Eden and Nova as less usual names. But I also like Ashley, Chelsea, Claire and Summer too.

For girls, I like: Roman, Paris and Hero. I also like August, Dylan and Blake too.

Reply:unusual since my hubby is foreign. I look at American names and his country's names. My son has an Eastern European name. To Americans it sounds unique though. I don't limit myself to just American names such as Matthew or Grayson. My baby name list is very long! LOL.

Reply:Unusual. I think they're prettier, and will make your child stand out way more in a classroom full or Sarahs, Emilys, and Matthews. But, i prefer common names as middle names sometimes. But, if youre gonna name your baby, "Pilot Inspektor", or "Tu Marrow." then stick to Sarah. haha.

Reply:I think a name has to be grown into. Try to imagine what the baby is going to look like %26amp; think of names you think would suit him. do not decide until after he is born - you don't want to decide on Dwayne %26amp; have a baby who looks more like a William.

Some names I like are

Declan, Harrison, Patrick, Richard, Donald, Ryan, Ewan.

Good solid old-fashioned names are best. Anything too outlandish will just mean he gets the s**t kicked out of him in the playground.
Reply:Why do you want an unusual name? Many unusual names cause problems in later life. Children could make fun of him, guaranteed people will spell his name wrong throughout his life. The same applies to "normal" names with unusual spellings.

If you want a name that's a bit different, why not pick one with special meaning to you. You could name your son after a man in your life that is close to you, like your father or grandfather. I find it's nice to name a child after someone you miss who's died.

Or you could look on a website and pick a name with a meaning. For example, my name, Emma, means "universal".

Ultimately, it's up to you. I'm sure any name you choose will be lovely and suit your child. Good luck!

Kids are cruel, and will find anything they can to make fun of someone. Parents like to name their children something unique, but they don't stop to think about what it might cause for the child. Do what you want, but I'd stick with something easy and that won't get him made fun of. As much. Kids can come up with something for any name, but it's harder for a name that's used more often.

My parents were looking for something Irish and thought that Eoghan was the original spelling of Egan (which is a family name a few generations ago). A serious lack of understanding of the incomprehensible and bizarre pronounciation of Irish - which is far more bizarre than English - led them to pick Eoghan. My older cousin (female) has it as her middle name also, for the same reason. I gave it to my son as a middle name, since it is actually a boy's name and I do like it.

There are several famous Eoghans in Irish history, including at least one St. Eoghan. One of the script writers for the BBC Sharpe's films is Eoghan Harris - I only noticed as it was the first time I'd seen the name outside of a text book.

Yes. If they are close friends they should damn well know it! Geez. Some people are rude! I know I would be embarrassed, I wonder why they are not?

Have you tried to give them an easier alternative, or have you insisted on perfection? Of course they should try. You should also accept whatever effort they're willing to put into it.

That said, I had one frustrating friend in high school who wouldn't tell the rest of us her real name because she said we'd never get it right. It was her choice to give us a simplified version. A few of us wanted to try the real name, but she never spilled those beans.

The only way this will ever be resolved is if your friends put your wishes and comfort ahead of their own (and learn to say the name as best they can) OR you put theirs ahead of yours (and let them say whatever's comfortable for them.) Either one would work, and you're the only one you can successfully change.

It is odd to call him by his first name. Though I guess the most important point to note here is "respect". If you say it with respect and your dad does not mind then I guess it should be OK.

But there is a reason why there is a dad and a mom and then there are friends. That is a different set of people altogether.
Reply:I always called my mother by her first name. She abandoned me when I was a year old and I was raised by my father and stepmother. I would go visit her supervised sometimes but didnt know who she was when I was little. So I called her by her first name. Later on I asked who she was and even though I knew then I still called her by her first name. Turned out I didnt know who she was because my father brainwashed me into thinking she wasnt my mother. I never did call her mother or mom.

Reply:well, i think that if u want ur daughter to have a part of her heritage in her u should do a cultural name depending on your nationality. names like those are unique anywhere in america. also, some cultural names are hard for some people to prononce so maybe think of a name that is easy to pronounce at school and other places but at the same time sophisticated. or you could even do a name that could be shortened to a cute little nickname. to make the name even more unique spell it differently.

im indian and its not my name but there is an indian name: nikkita....a cool way to spell it is nickita and her nickname could be nicki or nikki or niki.

I wouldn't call my kids' names unusual, but they are Lithuanian, so they're definitely not common. :) My parents were born in Lithuania, my siblings and I were raised speaking the language. I ended up marrying a Lithuanian guy (he's 3rd generation, wasn't raised with the language, I'm 2nd), and we chose Lithuanian names for our children.

We made jokes about it all day: "Hey, what are you doing tonight?" "Oh, nothing, just hanging out with Mei Wang", or "Guess what? I have no idea. I knew these girls I called them the ishas cause they were funny and the other one was just disgusting. Boqueshia, qualishia, loquishia, and their friend vomitina. I am serious about these names too. I never really thought enough to ask, but you have piqued my curiosity and I will ask asap. I mean it too.lol. Its not just black people. I am of African descent so I do not jest with stuff like that. I think there are funny names in all cultures. My uncles name is enemencio. it sounds like an enema to me. He is Hispanic. They are everywhere.

Personally, my name is Mary. While growing up, I hated this name because it sounded like the name of an old librarian.

I do admire African cultural names, names that have true meaning behind them.

By the way, Black people are not the only ones who name their kids ridiculous names. White people do it as well.

I feel that every name should have some kind of meaning of a person's life, where they're from or their future.

Jurgen and Volkmar was removed and replaced simply with Josh to fit the culture more, but i wish they would have kept it though.

Someone always swears to know such individuals like; twins by the name of Oranjello and Lemonjello, a girl named Candy Bar, a man named Lou Tennant; lets not forget Mary Christmas! The list goes on and has nothing to do with any particular ethnicity, just some parents with a good sense of humor.

Since you state your Shemequila or Lemahnjello are real and African American... I'd say a good start would be not to generalize. If you can't reference the name in any

Reply:some African Americans come up with some really cool names, and now White American people are using them. Seriously i have met white girls named Keisha, Lashonda, and Kionne. I think many African Americans create new names because they find names like David or Susan to be boring, slavery-related and also foreign. If you see a name on paper such as Joshua Payton, you think it's a white person. But if you see the name Jabari Payton (Jabari is actually a Swahili name), you don't think that person is white. If you see the name Ming Lee, you think the person is Asian. If you see Kumar Patel, you think Indian. I believe the names are created to set African American's apart from White Americans. Some may argue that names like Shemequila are meaningless. Conversely, I have no idea what Susan means, and I think most American people don't consider the meaning of such names when naming children. But also, most ultra-unique names are created by low-income Black Americans. So you may find some really odd names among people with less education but high creativity. And like someone else mentioned, white people give their kids some very unusual names as well, especially in Holywood

Honestly, I don't like any of them! I have an odd spelling to my name, and it is a pain. No one can spell it or pronounce it, and there are no personalized products on the market for me. Don't plague your child with a weird spelling to a common name.

Reply:None. My name is an unusual spelling and for my entire life, I've had to sit there going, "No, "K" and two "e"s at the end". It doesn't matter to me too much now, but, as a child, I hated never having my name spelled correctly, never being able to find the pencils/keychains/etc. with my name spelled correctly, having awards with my name all jacked up.

I will never understand why parents inflict this on a child. If you like the name, just spell it normally.

Abigail JoAnn. What's the point of throwing a "y" in or whatever. It's not exotic; it makes you look like you can't spell.

In the early years, they will go through school where kids will make fun of names and in the later years, unless they change it, they will be judged and sometimes either hired or not hired based on the name they have. Reply:I don't think you should confuse your kid, there teachers, friends and family with weird spelling. I go by Libby which is a nickname for my middle name and every year on the first day of school I had to explain to everyone where Libby came from. When your little it can be pretty traumatizing. It will be the same for your kid when the teacher can't pronounce it and all their classmates laugh.
